ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – A fox in southwestern Roanoke was confirmed to have rabies, the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts announced Thursday, March 26.
The rabies-infested fox was found near the crossroads of Beechwood Dr. and Roberts Rd.
Health officials recommend these procedures to help prevent the spread of rabies:
- AVOID contact with wild animals and domestic animals you do not know.
- REPORT injured or threatening animals.
- VACCINATE all of your dogs, cats and ferrets, and keep their vaccinations current.
- WASH the wound with soap and water. Don’t panic.
