Giles County man accused of smuggling powerful psychedelics and selling at Virginia Tech, report states

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – A Giles County man was arrested after an extensive investigation into international psychedelics smuggling, according to an April 9 report by the US Attorney’s Office, Western District of Virginia.

He faces the following charges:

  • attempting to possess with intent to distribute dimethyltryptamine (DMT)
  • distributing lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD)

Police investigators arrested Charles Herman Aardema III, 28, of Ripplemead, Va. after a federal criminal complaint alleged he brought psychedelic drugs into the US from Brazil in September 2021, the report said.

At that time, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) enforcement at the Miami international mail facility dealt with a suspicious parcel that had abnormal anomalies uncovered by X-ray. That parcel was addressed to Aardema’s Ripplemead home from a “Raul Wictor Silva Batista” of Brazil, the attorney’s office reported…
