ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – For cyclists and walkers, this ribbon-cutting wasn’t just another ceremony. It was the finish line of a 23-year effort.
“We live right near the Roanoke River Greenway so we’re always looking for extensions and new greenways to ride on,” said Tobias Stewart a local cyclist.
The four new contiguous segments connect the Blue Ridge Parkway to Explore Park, all part of a future 26-mile regional greenway corridor. Construction began in November of 2022 and wrapped up late last year, officials say. Getting here took persistence…
