Rocky Mount woman sentenced in fatal beating of eight-year-old stepson

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR)- A Rocky Mount woman will spend decades in prison in the beating death of her eight-year-old stepson.

Mary Marie Everson was sentenced on Monday, May 18 to 70 years in prison with 37 years suspended. Everson, who was being held without bond, has an active sentence of 33 years.

According to assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael Dennis, the medical examiner determined the manor of death was consistent with battered child syndrome due to the severity, number, location, and various ages of injuries.
