Olympic 1500 champion Cole Hocker has a new training setup and is now splitting time between Portland & Blacksburg

Cole Hocker, the US’s reigning Olympic 1500m champion and world 5,000m champion, has a new training seup. Moving forward, he will split his time between Portland, Ore., and Blacksburg, Va., his agent Ray Flynn confirmed to LetsRun.com on Wednesday. Hocker, 24, moved to Blacksburg in November 2023 after his coach Ben Thomas was hired as the head coach at Virginia Tech.

Aside from a few brief trips to Utah for altitude training and European racing trips, Hocker had largely been based in the southern Virginia town of 44,000 for the last two years. But he spent last fall living in Portland before returning to Blacksburg for the winter, taking advantage of the Hokies’ 200-meter Mondo indoor track at Rector Field House for training.

Flynn said that Hocker still owns a house in Blacksburg and will continue to visit for training stints. He will also keep Thomas as his coach…
