Tent City redevelopment about to get underway, nearly 1 year after devastating fire

Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) — A five-alarm fire destroyed much of the former Tent City building last summer.

The four-story brick structure at Lyell and Dewey avenues was vacant at the time. WinnDevelopment was then spearheading an affordable housing project, ready to turn the property in 88 apartments.

“It was definitely not a fun phone call at 11:30 at night, said David Ginseberg, senior vice president of WinnDevelopment’s New York region. “You hope it’s a pocket dial, but you know, in this case, it was very much not.”…
