Webster Public Library is delivering the joy of reading to Webster’s seniors

A new program offered by the Webster Public Library (WPL) is helping to bring the joy of reading to our town’s older residents.

It’s called BookBox for Seniors, an initiative the WPL introduced last year to deliver library services to senior living communities, whose residents often find it difficult or impossible to travel to the library proper.

It’s basically a mobile library dedicated to serving our community’s senior citizens. The idea is simple: once a month, WPL staff members stuff a few suitcases with several dozen books, drive on over to the senior community, spread them all out on tables in a common room, and let residents choose the ones they’d like to check out. Large-print books comprise most of the selection, but a smattering of coffee-table books and books about local history are mixed in as well…
