ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester celebrated the LGBTQ community over the weekend with the kickoff of Pride Month. The city is gearing up for its annual Pride Festival and Parade this Saturday.
People gathered at Genesee Valley Park on Sunday for the 54th annual Pride Picnic, which included music, food, arts vendors, and more. Rainbow Seniors ROC hosted the event. One person at the picnic, Patricia Evans, said she’s proud of what Rochester’s LGBTQ activists have accomplished over the decades.
“It started at the U of R, the gay liberation front. There were just a handful of us, and many people from the city started to join us. We had great functions, like dances with live bands, so the students would come and hang out with us too. And it was a time for learning and culture,” Evans said…
