A partial lunar eclipse happens when the Earth moves between the sun and the moon, and the moon passes through only part of Earth’s dark inner shadow. The eclipse gets underway around 10:33 p.m. At its peak at 12:12 a.m., the Earth’s shadow will cover over 90% of the moon’s surface, giving the moon a red tint.
