Timeline unclear as funding to demolish Terrence Building advances through City Council

Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) — Neighbors of the abandoned Terrence Building on Elmwood Avenue are ready to see it go, but the timeline for its demolition remains uncertain.

Built in the 1950s, and abandoned in 1995, the building used to house the Rochester Psychiatric Center. It’s now riddled with asbestos, with broken windows and graffiti visible from the street.

Grace Carswell has lived across from the building for about 40 years, since before it was abandoned. She said she’s watched the building deteriorate and become a hot spot for vandals…
