Book brings Seneca park Zoo animals to life for young hospital patients

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Seneca Park Zoo comes to life with a new virtual book.

Golisano Children’s Hospital, the zoo, and Ricoh came together to make “Sandy and Friends,” a virtual adventure book that brings the animals right to your living room. You scan the QR code, and a virtual depiction of the animal joins you in augmented reality.

Officials with Golisano Children’s Hospital share just how important this experience is for their patients.

“We bring activities to the bedside and one of the main purposes is, we want to continue the process of normal play,” said GCH Child Life Director Wendy Lane. “We want an opportunity for kids to really engage, and disengage from their medical experience. This one takes it a step further in the fact that it’s not just an activity book, but its a come to life activity book.”

More than 250 copies of the book were given to patients at the hospital ahead of the holidays.
