Cameron Cuts celebrates its grand opening

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A local nonprofit celebrated its grand opening of a New York-licensed barbershop — Cameron Cuts!

Cameron Community Ministries began planning for an apprenticeship program last January and began operating in June 2023.

With a day class of 10 students and a night class with 10 more, organizers say everything is provided to the students and they hope to help build their experience.

“Free of charge, there is no charge,” said Executive Director Olivia Kassoum-Amadou of Cameron Community. “We provide the barbering kit and prep for the NYS Barbering Exam and once they get their license, we also provide three months of experience here in this NYS-licensed barbershop until they build their clientele and feel free to move on.”

Cameron Cuts is located near the non-profit organization in the Lyell-Otis neighborhood of Rochester. Free haircuts are offered Monday through Wednesday by appointment only.
