ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Roberts Wesleyan University gave students the opportunity to take a “paws” for the day and hang out with a therapy dog.
Hudson, a sweet Bernese Mountain dog came to campus to relieve some stress during the college semester. This event was a collaborative partnership with Roberts Wesleyan’s Wellness Center and the Alliance of Therapy Dogs.
Lindsay Brooks, the Director of Wellness at Roberts Wesleyan said, “It can be really stress relieving, especially during finals week. But in the beginning of a semester, with students just coming back to campus a lot of times it’s a tough transition. They’re missing their pets from home. It’s just a nice little way to bring some comfort and smiles to them.”
Organizers say the purpose of this is to prioritize the state of mental health on college campuses using the benefits of pet therapy as one way to tackle anxiety.
