Florida man sentenced for string of ‘smash and grab’ robberies in Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A Florida man was sentenced to four and a half years in prison in connection to a series of car robberies in Rochester.

The US Attorney’s Office says they sentenced 33-year-old Dennis Jones as the final defendant in a series of “smash and grab” car robberies.

Investigators said between December 2021 and March 2022, Jones and three other people drove up the coast from Florida to Rochester to steal purses from unoccupied cars. The defendants were said to have used stolen driver’s licenses to cash in stolen checks totaling $55,310 at local banks.

Over 20 victims were identified in the Rochester area as well as an unnamed amount along the East Coast.

The other defendants in the case were 33-year-old Liza Freiman, of Boston, MA, who was sentenced to serve 12 months in prison; 34-year-old Allen Clark, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, who was sentenced to 84 months in prison; and 22-year-old Ja’Cari Robinson, also of Fort Lauderdale, FL, who was sentenced to six months in prison.
