Postal labor union addresses mail processing uncertainty in WNY

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Possible changes could be coming to postal services in Western New York. Right now, USPS is in talks to consolidate mail processing from Buffalo to Rochester.

A public meeting has been set for February 27 in Cheektowaga to discuss the future of the processing and distribution center in Buffalo.

While plans to consolidate aren’t concrete yet, it could bring delays in deliveries across the region. If approved, Buffalo-area mail would be processed locally, which could bring a potential strain to the industry.

“When the mail is processed, we have to process our furthest mail first. That’s a lot of different offices that we will have to process their mail first before we even begin processing the city of Rochester and our surrounding associative offices. That’s going to delay our processing.”

Kenny Montgomery serves as president of the National Association of Letter Carriers Local 210, and says in turn, there could be a delay in the time customers receive their mail.
