Blues guitarist Taj Mahal will kick off Rochester Jazz Festival

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Blues guitarist Taj Mahal was added to the list of headliners for the upcoming CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival.

Taj Mahal was originally going to play at the Jazz Festival in 2020, but it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now he will be kicking off the festival on its opening night — June 21 at 8 a.m. at the Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre.

Taj Mahal’s career has been active since the 1960s and he is known for such hits as “Fishin’ Blues,” “Lovin’ in My Baby’s Eyes,” and “Statesboro Blues.” The last time he played at the Jazz Festival was in June 2009.

The guitarist will join the likes of Laufey , the Lee Ritenour Band, Samara Joy , and Randy Brecker and Bill Evans at the festival. Festival organizers said the full lineup of performances will be announced on Tuesday, March 19.
