Sodus man accused of taking part in Jan. 6 riot will be in court

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A Sodus man accused of taking part in the Capitol Riot on January 6, 2021, is expected to appear in court Tuesday morning.

James Weeks, 55, will be appearing in court for a hearing after making his first initial appearance on February 1. He was arrested earlier this month amid an investigation into an individual named Troy Weeks.

The Department of Justice said they identified Weeks in footage of the Capitol Riot. Weeks was accused of cursing out and assaulting a Metropolitan police officer, rallying people to push into the building, and helping smash a window of the Capitol.

Weeks faces multiple charges, including civil disorder and assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers, destruction of government property, and aiding and abetting.

Weeks is not the first person arrested in the Western and Central New York area in connection to the riot. Although Dominic Pezzola of Rochester was found not guilty of seditious conspiracy, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Cody Mattice of Hilton and James Mault of Brockport were also sentenced.
