First Responders Spotlight: Officer makes rooftop rescue in Fairport

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Officer Christopher Dinan has been on the force with Fairport P.D. for nearly 9 years. He’s seen a lot, but nothing quite the call he rushed out to in the fall.

There was a man trapped on a roof. The man was clearing leaves from the gutters when he had a medical issue and was left clinging to the edge. His wife called 911. Dinan was among the first on the scene.

“The firefighter that was with us started to try to find a ladder to get up there and that’s when I noticed there was a window that led out to the roof section he was on,” Dinan said.

His body camera caught what happened next.

“I got through that window, got onto the roof and that’s when I realized how steep the roofs in Fairport are,” Dinan explained. “He grabbed my hand and we swung him over to a chimney where he could find some ground there to keep himself up on the roof.”

They eventually got the man down by going back through the same window and to EMS to check him out. He was okay, but the officer wasn’t done with the job.
