‘Grateful and amazed:’ Emergency veterinary practice gets second large donation in 2 days

Things are really looking up for people with pets in Rochester.

On Monday, Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services announced it had received a “transformational” donation of $500,000 that will enable it to move to a larger, better equipped building and hire more vets.

On Tuesday, the nonprofit practice, in existence for just eight months, learned it’s also getting $1.5 million from Tom Golisano , part of $360 million being distributed to 82 nonprofits in western and central New York over the next four to five years.

“It’s been a whirlwind of a couple days for us,” said REVS medical director and co-founder Dr. Bruce Ingersoll.

Billionaire philanthropist Golisano , an Irondequoit native, made the announcement at a morning press conference, saying his wife, retired tennis legend Monica Seles, inspired the Golisano Foundation to create funding for organizations that benefit pets. He called her “a real advocate for pets, knowing how important they are to families. How they become part of your family.”
