Fairy Godmothers of Rochester to hold weekend bridal dress drive

HENRIETTA, N.Y. (WROC) — A local program’s longtime mission of serving young women, and helping them feel their best, will embark on a new chapter this weekend.

“When you come in this space, we’re going to make you feel cared for,” said Ami Salzman, co-director of Fairy Godmothers of Rochester.

Since the early 2000s, Fairy Godmothers of Rochester has outfitted thousands of girls for prom. This weekend, there’s another special occasion on their list.

“I was retiring out of the bridal space. I’ve been working with Fairy Godmothers for a few years and I thought, what a great opportunity to take the inventory that I had to donate it to them. It was just a great fit,” said Sharon Barratt, owner of Scarlet Fashions.

Through a partnership between Barrett and the organization, they will look to dress nearly 100 brides for their big day in the coming days.

It comes with a major cost savings, and not only for a wedding gown, but an outfit for the entire bridal party.

“We want every young lady to come in here and feel special. So, when a bride comes in, she’ll be greeted by a personal shopper and she can take her time and work with that shopper on her vision, her dream. It’s a very tough time to put together a wedding, and we are slashing prices on these designer gowns. Dresses that are $6,000 are going for $1,400. If you want to save some money, this is where you want to be this weekend,” said Salzman.
