‘Inspectors like me are the front line:’ Poll workers talk election day

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Jada Williams has worked with the Board of Elections on and off since 2019. She’s currently a democratic election inspector. Williams says poll workers have many responsibilities and are integral to a smooth election day.

“Keep the voters informed,” she says. “There’s a lot of misinformation that is out there. So, it’s good to have us there to provide them with the appropriate information that they need, so that the process flows.”

Lance Seeber works as an election coordinator and as a Republican representative. He’s been working with the Board of Elections for about eight years. “Inspectors like me are the front line,” he said, “greeting the people and helping them through the process, and making sure everyone votes, or everyone has the chance to vote.”

Seeber says the biggest change over the last few years– the introduction of poll pads instead of books. “Like previous years, we haven’t had the kind of turnout that we do on presidential years. So, it’s great that we got more voters registered. Hopefully, they’ll vote in the coming years and not just wait four years to vote for the next president — again.”
