ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — If you drove past East Avenue on your way to work or school this morning, you likely saw a rally full of bright signs and cheerful optimism. The kind you can only find in the future generation of voters!
They may not be old enough to make the pass through the polls themselves, but these civically-minded fifth graders say you can go in their stead! This class from the Genesee Community Charter School rallied the day before Election Day and encouraged passersby to take a detour to the polling places.

“Maybe you have a different opinion than what most people think, but you should let it out there and tell people,” said Amelia.
The students just learned about amendments to the Constitution, abolishing slavery, and civil rights for women and people of color. They then decided to get to work!
“We started learning about how segregation and how people fought to end segregation and then to get their rights to vote,” Ethan said.
