New Year’s Eve: Emergency Safety Order in effect for Rochester’s East End

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Rochester Police Department reminded folks Monday afternoon to be safe on the roads as we approach New Years. A big takeaway: if you’re going out drinking, have a plan in place for sober transportation.

RPD officers said the Emergency Safety Order for Rochester’s East End will be in place for the holiday, with heightened security measures. It comes with the authority to prohibit certain pedestrian and vehicle traffic in specific areas of the entertainment district. However, that’s not all:

“We’re going to have officers out there enforcing drunk driving. We’re going to be working with our partners in the sheriff’s office and State Police. Towns and villages are all going to be out there, enforcing DWI laws as well,” said Captain Greg Bello. “A lot of festivities going on across the city – across the area, so, we encourage people to be safe on New Years’ Eve. Whether you’re going to a friend’s house, family house, out to the many establishments across our community, our city, we encourage you to always make sure you have a safe plan to get to where you need to go and to get home after those festivities.”
