Democrat announces candidacy for Rochester mayor

Democrat Shashi Sinha announced his candidacy for Mayor of Rochester on Wednesday.

Sinha is a technology director and real estate investor who owns the Dartmouth House, a luxury inn in Rochester.

Sinha was raised in India and later moved to Rochester. His educational journey led him to France, where he pursued business studies before eventually settling in the United States to establish a career in IT.

He relocated to Rochester 14 years ago with his wife, who had accepted a position as a history professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

According to Sinha, he is committed to revitalizing Rochester through innovative policies and active community engagement.

“I have lived in Rochester for nearly 15 years, and over the past decade, I have witnessed no true progress in combatting violent crime, dramatically improving our schools, expanding affordable housing, and fostering economic growth,” Sinha said in a statement. “This stagnation stems from a significant lack of vision and leadership. Rochester needs bold action and transformative change, and I am here to deliver it. Together, we can build a city that works for everyone, celebrates diversity, and embraces a bright future.”
