Rochester City teachers react after school board denies raises

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester City School Board voted against a proposed raise for teachers, as well as a $2,500 retention bonus. The decision came after 80 teachers retired and more than double that number resigned last year.

The school board meeting was tense at times, leading to a short recess. Camille Simmons, RCSD School Board President, said, “Because what we’re not going to do is, is have an arguing match. So I want to recess the meeting to allow me to finish.”
