Man, 58, charged in Sweden shoplifting investigation that shut down road

SWEDEN, N.Y. — A man is accused of shoplifting from the Walmart in Sweden, leading to part of Brockport Spencerport Road being shut down on Wednesday as deputies searched for him.

Brighton resident Christopher Cole, 58, is facing six counts of petit larceny. Monroe County sheriff’s deputies describe him as a repeat offender, with 16 misdemeanor convictions and two open felony cases, including a robbery in Chili. He was arraigned on Thursday morning and released ahead of his trial.

Cole was arrested in the Byrne Dairy parking lot in Sweden after police got a tip from a citizen. Deputies say they shut down the road to search for the suspect in the Walmart theft, who reportedly then tried to steal from Lowe’s. Employees at Lowe’s managed to stop the suspect from stealing anything…
