Doctors advise vaccinating kids before school starts

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — As the new school year approaches, doctors are urging parents to ensure their children are up to date on required vaccines.

Pediatricians highlight that certain vaccines are mandatory for students entering kindergarten, sixth, seventh, and twelfth grades. These include boosters for MMR, polio, chickenpox, tetanus, and meningitis. Additionally, annual physicals are required, particularly for students participating in fall sports.

“We definitely encourage not waiting and making sure you’re on top of things for your kids,” said Sarah Collins-McGowan, Peds clinic director at URMC. “But particularly for kids who are going to be playing fall sports, they’re definitely going to need a physical within a certain timeframe.”…
