New RCSD superintendent aims to improve attendance — as 60% of students miss over 10% of school year

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester City School District is gearing up for the start of classes, which begin on Sept. 5. To prepare, the district held a community conversation Saturday with parents and guardians to discuss their biggest concerns.

Dr. Eric J. Rosser, the new superintendent, highlighted a key area for improvement in the upcoming school year.

“Definitely attendance. What we see here in Rochester is that 60% of our student population has missed more than 10% of the school year,” said Rosser. “Given that number, we also recognize that our children missing so many days from school are not being exposed to the high-quality education that our teachers and our staff members are providing our children.”…
