Plea agreement reached in case of Rochester arson that claimed life of young boy

One of two sisters accused of intentionally setting a house fire that killed a young boy in the city of Rochester last summer has accepted a plea agreement in the case.

Court records show Tiakayla Hendrix pleaded guilty to second-degree arson in connection with a fire on Portland Avenue in Aug. 2024. Police say Malakai Stovall, 5, was trapped inside the burning home and died a few days later.

Under the plea agreement, Tiakayla admitted to starting the fire at the entrance of Stovall’s home. She previously faced an indictment of second-degree murder, second-degree assault and first-degree arson before the plea…
