All about Rochester’s new Night Market: ‘It just kind of snowballed’

As the sun set on the west side of Rochester Tuesday evening, Sept. 2, over 200 people gathered to enjoy music, food and shopping at the Rochester Night Market.

The new event at the Exchange open-air events location on Flint Street near the west side of the Genesee River hosted over 50 vendors. Some of the vendors included first timers sharing their artwork and wares with the community. The Rochester Night Market runs every other Tuesday until Oct. 28, with the next Night Market on Sept. 16.

Origins of Rochester Night Market

After visiting a night market in Bangkok, Thailand, Lex Page, owner of the Exchange event space, realized that Rochester didn’t have anything like it, so she decided to create that space once the opportunity presented itself.

Page is also the owner of Midcentury585, on whose property the market is hosted. Someone else once had the space next to hers, but once they moved, she expanded, giving an opportunity to host a night market and simultaneously collaborate with other small businesses…
