CBP agents actively monitoring Lake Ontario with more ‘boots on the ground’

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Keeping the U.S. border safe is the goal of the country’s Customs and Border Protection agents. The job can take many shapes, and many modes of transportation. On the water, agents keep a well-trained eye to catch anything fishy.

“The vessel that we’re on right now is a 25-foot safe boat with twin 225s on the back, and its a very capable vessel, but as far as the smoothness of the ride, it really depends on the water, right? So, waves like this are very easy to handle, but yet they could make for a long shift,” vessel commander Justin Keener admitted.

Even when the waves are choppy out on Lake Ontario, CBP agents take to the water. Agents at the Rochester station cover the approximate 50 miles between them and the U.S.-Canadian border…
