A major transmission line project is about to get underway in the Rochester area, promising more reliable electricity for more than 65,000 residents.

- Installation of 128 new steel poles, which are more durable and weather-resistant
- Updates to substations, including new circuit breakers, surge protectors, and connection bays
RG&E says the improvements will make the grid more resilient to outages caused by storms, traffic crashes, or aging infrastructure, while also preparing for increased energy demand in the future.
Local leaders call it a “blessing” and a “promise”
“This project is truly a blessing for our Gates community,” said Gates Town Supervisor Cosmo Giunta. “It’s more than just an upgrade — it’s a promise to protect our community’s safety, comfort, and future.”
Rochester Mayor Malik D. Evans echoed the importance of reliability, especially for businesses and vulnerable residents. “A safe, reliable, and affordable power supply is vital to the health and safety of Rochester’s residents and the success of our employers,” he said…
