ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Fire crews responded Tuesday evening after smoke was seen coming from the entryway of a vacant commercial building that once operated as a Tops grocery store on Lake Avenue, according to the Rochester Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched just after 7:30 p.m. and arrived three minutes later to find smoke showing from the front of the one-story structure. A working fire was declared, and crews removed boards from the building to access and extinguish flames in the entryway.
The fire was brought under control just before 8 p.m. Firefighters then ventilated the roof to check for any fire extension into the ceiling void space and remained on scene for overhaul operations…
