ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Come January, most new homes, businesses and apartments in New York State will have to be completely powered with electricity. The “All Electric Buildings Act” was passed in 2023 and is set to take effect on January 1, 2026. It bans new gas hookups in buildings less than 7 stories.
But there are serious feasibility questions considering RG&E and NYSEG are already out of space on the grid to electrify a number of current projects locally, that aren’t even fully electric.
