ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Department of Motor Vehicles is sharing data on how many fake IDs police have seized so far this year in New York State.
The DMV is also warning people that, when you order a fake ID, to allows criminals to maliciously use the personal information you provide them. That opens the door to identity theft. The DMV says fake ID sellers are often based outside of the U.S., making them difficult to track.
In New York State, 343 fake IDs have been seized this year. That includes 125 seized in the Rochester and Finger Lakes areas. Around 32% of college students have admitted to owning a fake ID they ordered online, according to ID verification company Veriff…
