ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Three Rochester City Council members will host a hearing on Wednesday on solutions to violence in New York State prisons.
The hearing is part of a push for prison reform after the death of Robert Brooks at Marcy Correctional Facility. Bodycam video shows several corrections officers beating Brooks, an inmate from Greece, in a medical exam room. He died the next day.
Council Members Stanley Martin, Mary Lupien, and Kim Smith say the meeting will explore solutions, including “expanding safe pathways home for incarcerated people” and “transforming conditions inside the facilities.” It starts at 5 p.m. at Rochester City Hall on Church Street…
