More than 104,000 people in Monroe County rely on the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to get food for their household. However, County Executive Adam Bello says the county was notified last week that SNAP benefits due to be released on Nov. 1 would be delayed because of the ongoing government shutdown.
Because of this, food pantries around Rochester are preparing for a surge in demand. Foodlink’s president and CEO says they are purchasing more supplies to serve more of the community in the coming days.
