Man convicted of 1994 Rochester stabbing released from prison after 30 years

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The man convicted of brutally stabbing a woman to death in Rochester more than 30 years ago was just released from prison.

Jerome Major, who has changed his name to Salim Nafis Az-Zahid, was granted parole earlier this week. It was the fourth time he appeared before the parole board.

Az-Zahid was convicted of stabbing Jean Giambra to death inside her Corwin Road home in 1994. He was sentenced on a second-degree murder charge in June 1995…
