Nearly 20% of all Rochester-area residents surveyed by The Levine Center to End Hate this year said they are afraid of being verbally or physically attacked because of their background.
More respondents also believe discrimination is prevalent locally than in 2022, when the Levine Center first polled residents on the topic. While the majority of respondents said Rochester is mostly a welcoming city, less than half said it’s a good place to live if you are Black, Hispanic, Muslim or an immigrant.
