“UNIONS: ROC CITY HALL MISAPPROPRIATES MORE THAN $10M” – Lonsberry

A union healthcare account overseen by the City of Rochester is more than $10 million short, members of an oversight committee were told last week, in spite of longtime assertions by city officials that the account was flush with cash.

The revelation came after union representatives on the city’s Healthcare Committee of Labor and Management insisted on seeing an actual bank statement of the account balance, as opposed to the amounts reported by City Hall at the committee’s monthly meetings.

The missing money is believed to have been moved by city officials, contrary to contract and memoranda of agreement, from health-cares costs for current employees – borne jointly by the employees and the city – to health-care costs for retirees – the sole responsibility of the city…
