ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Palar Banks, a sixth grader at the Aquinas Institute, is being honored for getting a fellow student help during a mental health crisis.
Palar’s classmate said they would hurt themselves, so she told a trusted adult so the student could get help. Palar’s teacher said her actions show how mature and caring she is. Palar spoke with us about what it means to do the right thing.
“I felt that it was important for me to tell the teacher because I didn’t want it to go any farther than it needed to go,” she said. “I think that doing the right thing is better than doing the wrong thing because doing the wrong thing, you might not get anywhere else better in life. And it’s better to speak up than not to say anything.”…
