Health code inspectors in Monroe County were busy last month checking to make sure each restaurant and other non-food spots that prepare food, like schools and jails, meet certain safety standards. Thankfully, 107 restaurants (and other places that serve food) passed with flying colors.
But there is also a long list of those who did not pass. Health code inspectors in Monroe County will give restaurants violations for things like “Food not protected during storage, preparation, display, transportation and service, from potential sources of contamination (e.g., food uncovered, mislabeled, stored on floor, missing or inadequate sneeze guards, food containers double stacked),” and “Insects, rodents present.” Those violations are considered non-critical. Restaurants can get critical violations, such as “Non-food contact surfaces and equipment are improperly desacigned, constructed, installed, maintained (equipment not readily accessible for cleaning, surface not smooth finish).”
