Sibley’s Toyland returns for third annual holiday display

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A holiday tradition from one of Rochester’s most storied department stores is returning to Sibley Square.

The third annual Sibley’s Toyland display opens Dec. 1 at the Mercantile on Main, bringing restored animatronic figures and decorations from the former Sibley’s Department Store back to public view. The installation will run through Jan. 15, excluding Christmas Day.

For decades, Sibley’s was a major downtown draw during the holidays, known for its elaborate “Toyland” and “Magic Corridor” displays that featured toys, animated elves, and visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Many Rochester families recall the displays as a seasonal tradition before the store closed…
