RPD: Body found in debris of Forbes St. church fire

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Rochester police confirmed Thursday that a body was discovered at the site of Sunday’s fire at the vacant Trinity Inter-Faith Church on Forbes Street.

Officials said the remains were found by a demolition crew clearing debris from the scene. The body was buried in the rubble and was not immediately visible during initial firefighting efforts.

Police have not released the identity of the person or any additional details but said more information will be shared as it becomes available.

Firefighters responded to the blaze around 10 a.m. Sunday after multiple 911 calls reported the church on fire. Crews arrived within two minutes and saw flames from the exterior. Firefighters initially attempted to enter the building, but after about 10 minutes, the incident commander ordered everyone out due to the extent of the fire.
