‘It’s rewarding work’: An inside look at the role of radiology technologists at URMC

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Radiology technicians are essential in diagnosing patients, whether due to a car crash, persistent pain, or the need for surgery. Terrance Cooper, who has been with URMC for about six years, spends his days performing X-rays on patients. Radiologists may only spend a few minutes with some patients but those minutes count.

“So when I went to school, I had to pay for it all. I had previously had a degree so I had run through all of my financial aid,” said Terrance Cooper, Radiologic Technician at the University of Rochester Medical Center. “But they currently offer something for students where you know, that, you know, they can you can go to school, and I think they’ll pay for it.”

Cooper has been at URMC for nearly six years, four and a half in his current role. In 2018, he lost his job as a claims adjuster and didn’t know what he wanted to do next…
