Guide to key deadlines for packages or cards to arrive before Christmas

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – With a week left until Christmas Eve, the rush is on to get presents shipped to loved ones in time. Wednesday is a key deadline for those who have been putting off shipping holiday greeting cards or packages.

The U.S. Postal Service says Wednesday is the deadline for cards and Ground Advantage and the cutoff for first-class service. The Priority Mail deadline is Thursday and the Priority Express Mail deadline is Saturday. You can see hours for post offices in the Rochester area on USPS’s website.

“We prepare for this year-round. Over the past five years, we’ve installed 614 package sorting machines across the country, allowing us to process 88 million packages a day,” said Mark Lawrence, strategic communications specialist for USPS. “We’re ready for it. And it takes more than just the carriers and clerks that are visible to the public. It’s our mail handlers and clerks inside of the processing facilities, which move packages from location to geographic areas and so forth to get them there for final delivery.”…
