DOH issues alert on ‘200 times more potent’ sedative in NY

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A new substance is being found in the illicit drug supply in certain parts of the country, including New York.

Friday afternoon, New York State’s Department of Health issued a warning of the highly potent synthetic sedative.

It’s called Medetomidine and is typically used in veterinary settings for sedation, similar to xylazine. But it’s often a challenge for frontline workers in any community to have a real-time understanding of what is presenting in the illicit supply…
