UR Medicine launches ‘Hospital at Home’ program to ease overcrowding in emergency rooms

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — UR Medicine has launched a new program called Hospital at Home to help ease the overcrowding crisis in local emergency rooms. The program allows eligible patients to receive hospital-level care in the comfort of their own homes.

Don Bilgore, a 99-year-old patient, recently benefited from the Hospital at Home program. Bilgore was admitted to the hospital with the flu but found himself waiting in a crowded emergency room due to a lack of available beds.

“I had difficulty breathing, I was admitted to the hospital but there was no beds so I was in the emergency in the hub-bub of what’s going on in the emergency,” Bilgore said. A few days into his stay, Strong Hospital offered Bilgore the opportunity to be treated at home…
