Thousands without power, two planes abort landing in Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Strong wind gusts have arrived in the Rochester region. The First Alert Weather team has issued a Red Alert for Monday as we track wind speeds that could exceed 50 to 60 miles per hour, especially west of Rochester. Those winds have already started to make an impact, with thousands of people losing power. You can see our latest forecast here.

News10NBC’s Chris Fortune saw waves crashing against the pier of Lake Ontario at Ontario Beach Park. On the way to the beach, he saw multiple trash cans tipped over on Lake Avenue. You can see his full report here:

A viewer, Joseph Frascati, shared a video of two planes aborting a landing at the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport.

In response to the wind, the New York State Thruway Authority has a ban on empty tractor-trailers and tandems. The ban is in place in both directions from Henrietta to the Pennsylvania border on the Thruway.
