GATES, N.Y. — A male is in custody after hiding from police in woods and brush near the Erie Canal after being stopped by a Gates police officer.
According to a Gates sergeant, the officer had stopped the man on Lyell Avenue on suspicion of solicitation at about 5:20 p.m. He was on a bicycle and sped off toward the canal, then running into the woods near the canal. The officer chased him but lost sight of him…
